SUMMARY:Our Energy Horizon: A Solar\, Storage\, Electric Vehicle\, & Transmission Event
DESCRIPTION:Join the Clean Energy Business Council and Kansas Advanced Power Alliance for an in-depth afternoon discussing the state’s energy future for utility-scale solar\, storage\, electric vehicle\, and transmission expansion. \n\n\n\n\nRSVP Today!\n\n\n\n\nThe Our Energy Horizon Forum will include a robust dialogue about our rapidly changing energy economy from clean energy experts\, policymakers\, and industry leaders. How will Kansas navigate the implementation of renewable technology\, specifically around utility-scale solar\, battery storage\, electric vehicles\, and transmission? What are the economic benefits of these technologies for the region? What’s happening to enable greater adoption of electric vehicles across the state? All of this and more in a dynamic conversation that looks at what’s happening and how Kansas can capture the benefits of these opportunities and embrace a changing energy future. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMONDAY\, OCTOBER 25\, 2021 \n\n\n\n1:00-5:00 PM \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nNOTE: The event will follow general COVID-19 protocol\, including social distancing and masks. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAgenda\n\n\n\nLink to Speaker Bios\n\n\n\nDiscussion 1 – Moderated by Mark Walter\, Savion\n\n\n\nHow Utility-Scale Solar & Battery Storage Technologies Work \n\n\n\nSpeakers: \n\n\n\nRobert Wright\, Burns & McDonald (Utility-Scale Solar) \n\n\n\nFrank Jakob\, Black & Veatch (Battery Storage) \n\n\n\nDiscussion 2 – Moderated by Jessica Lucas\, Clean Energy Business Council\n\n\n\nEconomic Benefits of Solar & Storage \n\n\n\nSpeakers: \n\n\n\nJeremy Hill\, Wichita State University (Property Value Impacts) \n\n\n\nMichelle Milburn\, Stanion (Local Supply Chain Opportunities) \n\n\n\nIndustry Growth\, Jobs (Speaker TBA) \n\n\n\nDiscussion 3: Moderated by Josh Svaty\, Kansas Power Alliance\n\n\n\nSolar & Storage Implementation Considerations\n\n\n\nSpeakers: \n\n\n\nWilliam Wilkins\, NextEra Energy Resources (Land Use\, Environmental Impacts\, Decommissioning) \n\n\n\nLuke Hagedorn\, Polsinelli (Siting Regulations) \n\n\n\nKansas Supply Chain opportunities and Global Trade Impacts (Speaker TBA) \n\n\n\nDiscussion 4: Moderated by Kelly Gilbert\, Metropolitan Energy Center\n\n\n\nTransportation Electrification & Transmission\n\n\n\nSpeakers: \n\n\n\nJason Dake\, Orange EV (Heavy-Duty EVs) \n\n\n\nTami Alexander\, Central Kansas Clean Cities Coalition \n\n\n\nMark Augustine\, Triplett\, Inc. 3rd Party Charging Infrastructure   \n\n\n\nBrett Leopold\, ITC Transmission (Transmission as a Lynchpin) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nInterested in joining our sponsors\, Kansas Power Alliance\, Clean Energy Business Council\, Kansans for Wind Energy\, NextEra Energy\, Evergy\, Climate Action KC\, Savion\, Black & Veatch\, Burns & McDonnell\, Polsinelli\, Ecofin\, KS Dept. of Commerce\, ITC Holdings\, and Foley Power Solutions? SUMMARY:Utility Scale Solar & Storage Webinar
DESCRIPTION:The Clean Energy Business Council\, a project of the Climate + Energy Project\, is hosting a webinar with special guests Robert Wright\, Renewable Energy Development Manager at Burns & McDonnell and Frank Jakob\, Energy Storage Technology Manager at Black & Veatch to discuss utility-scale solar and storage.\n\n\n\nPanelists include Dorothy Barnett\, Executive Director of the Climate + Energy Project\, as host; Bill Roush\, CEP Board Member\, as moderator; Robert Wright\, Renewable Energy Development Manager at Burns & McDonnell\, as a presenter; and Frank Jakob\, Energy Storage Technology Manager at Black & Veatch\, as a presenter.\n\n\n\nRecording Available Now\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPresentation Slides \n\n\n\nPresenters\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRobert Wright\, Burns & McDonnell\n\n\n\nMr. Robert Wright is the Renewable Energy Development Manager for the technical development and implementation of new renewable generation for Burns & McDonnell’s Energy Division. His duties include technology comparisons\, cost estimating\, performance optimization\, economic analysis\, conceptual design\, siting studies\, and project coordination. Additionally\, Mr. Wright helps clients determine overarching project strategies to go from conception through regulatory approval focusing on competitive and winning approaches. \n\n\n\nMr. Wright incorporates current market conditions\, policies\, and tax benefits into his analyses. He has his professional engineering license in mechanical engineering as well as a master’s degree in Engineering Management and a bachelor’s degree in Engineering Physics\, both from the Colorado School of Mines. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrank Jakob\, Black & Veatch\n\n\n\nMr. Frank Jakob\, P.E.\, PMP\, is the Energy Storage Technology Manager at Black & Veatch. He leads the design of energy storage systems that improve and enhance renewable and conventional electricity generation. He has over 30 years of experience with developing new applications for products. Now his focus is on electrochemical devices (batteries and fuel cells) and bulk storage technology (pumped hydro\, compressed air\, and sensible & latent thermal heat storage technologies) in short- and mid- and long-term energy storage applications for renewable energy (solar photovoltaic and wind turbine systems) and for conventional generation (turbines\, engines; hydroelectric generation\, and thermal power plants.) Frank adds energy storage to improve operations\, extend life\, increase responsiveness\, and decrease emissions — including carbon footprints and greenhouse gasses. \n\n\n\nMost recently Frank has been growing Black & Veatch’s energy storage EPC practice and Owners’ Engineering services.
