The Climate + Energy Project is celebrating fifteen years of climate and energy leadership while giving a warm farewell to two board members.
This year, the Climate + Energy Project will celebrate 15 years of climate and energy leadership in Kansas. Watch your email for your Save the Date to our annual celebration, awards ceremony, and fundraiser. There is so much to celebrate, thanks to the historic passage in the Senate, of the largest climate investment in US history!
Throughout the years, our organization has faced both successes: like wind energy growth and defeating rooftop solar fees, as well as a few set-backs: no energy efficiency (yet) and no state energy plan.
So much of CEP’s success can be attributed to outgoing board members Cassi Kuhn and Uma Outka. Please celebrate them with a toast or send a note to thank them for their good work.

Cassi first joined CEP as a dynamic program director in 2012, and her enthusiasm for clean energy and energy efficiency was evident from day one. Her work on our Kansas State Fair booths and energy efficiency competition–the Take Charge Challenge–along with her coordination of the Years of Living Dangerously film screenings and panels hosted across Kansas were highlights of her work.
When she left to join the University of Kansas, Cassi became a CEP board member, serving for six years. As Chairwoman, her achievements are many, including working with the board on both emergency and scheduled executive director succession plans.
Uma Outka began her service to CEP in 2016. Even before joining the CEP board, Uma supported CEP’s work, sharing resources about a just energy transition while connecting Dorothy and CEP to others at the University of Kansas, where she has been a Professor of Law since 2011. Under Uma’s Chairwomanship, CEP completed our first strategic plan, expanded the board, and updated our mission to include equitable decarbonization.
These two women created positive change for the Climate + Energy Project, their fellow board members, the CEP staff, and for Dorothy personally, and we all will be forever grateful.
