Engage in Douglas County Climate Action Planning
November 27, 2021

For the last several months, the Climate + Energy Project and Sunrise Project have been combining our unique talents, knowledge, and approaches to create and implement an equity-driven community engagement process for Douglas County’s Climate Action Plan.

Sunrise Project and Climate + Energy Project have been working together to support Community Coordinators as they process, document, and synthesize information and stories that are collected from community members.

Our organizations are working in partnership with Douglas County Sustainability Office to determine the best way to document the experiences of Douglas County residents to ensure that the Climate Action Plan reflects the lived realities of all of our community members.

If you are a resident of Douglas County, engage in the planning process through the several ways listed below!

Douglas County and the City of Lawrence are coming together to respond to climate change.

Conditions are changing: Extreme weather is being supercharged. There are more severe events like flooding, extreme heat, and drought.

Consider the effects: How will these changing conditions impact our community’s quality of life?

Set policy direction: What strategies and policy goals will help us secure the future we want?

We are looking for voices from every corner of the community and want to hear from you. Join us today by taking a short survey.

We can all take local climate action. Here are ways you can participate in the process and take climate action:

  1. Take the community survey. We want to hear how your daily lives are affected by climate change and about the issues most important to you. We’ve already heard from over 200 people!
  2. Volunteer to be a Climate Ambassador. All you need is a willingness to connect with people you already know, have conversations, and share what you learn to help enhance the community voice in our climate plan in late 2021 and early 2022. We have a menu of activities to choose from for ages 5 and up!
  3. Watch and Share this video! https://youtu.be/c1HsL7uTKuM
