Evergy’s $35 minimum bill would raise rates on nearly 200,000 Kansans

Submit a Public Comment Opposing Evergy’s $35 Minimum Bill!

On November 5th, nearly 50 Kansans made their voices heard at the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) hearing about Evergy’s proposed grid access fee and $35 minimum bill. We were heartened by the strong engagement and resounding opposition that Kansans voiced.

We recently learned that the KCC staff is recommending Evergy’s minimum bill, which would increase rates on impacted customers. Watch our information session that addresses the issues with the minimum bill, and share with your friends and colleagues.

According to Evergy’s own testimony, their minimum bill would impact nearly 130,000 customers making less than $24,000/year. Additionally, they state that their ideal minimum bill is $77. If the KCC approves this $35 minimum bill, a $77 minimum bill could be around the corner. Read more in our FAQ.

As Rabbi Moti Rieber with Kansas Interfaith Action recently wrote: “In this time of a pandemic and recession, the last thing Evergy’s customers need is another rate increase to pad the utility’s bottom line.”

You have until December 21st to make your voice heard, and encourage others to do the same! Here’s how:

Submit a public comment to the KCC. Comments can be submitted on the KCC’s websitevia email, written letter, or by phone. See the box below for email address, mailing address, and phone number. See sample statements here

Please help CEP track public comments in opposition to this proposal by completing this simple form.

TAKE ACTION! SAY NO TO EVERGY’S DIRTY RATE HIKES
TAKE ACTION! SAY NO TO EVERGY’S DIRTY RATE HIKES

Kansas’ largest utility monopoly, Evergy, is proposing a rate increase for nearly 1 million Kansas customers. The proposed rate increase would be one of the largest in the company’s history, hiking Kansas Central customers’ bills by more than $170 per year. Kansas City area Metro customers will see an additional $42 per year.
