Take Action to Protect Solar Rights
May 21, 2020

The Save Kansas Solar campaign is strong! And we continue to need your help to advocate for solar rights. As so many of us and our neighbors are struggling with the coronavirus pandemic, an unprecedented attack has been launched on solar rights, and your help is needed to stop it.

A petition was filed with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) by a small New England association that would remove Kansas’ right to design retail net metering programs (the petition can be found here). Net metering is a state-based solar energy policy that helps make rooftop and community solar affordable to millions across the country. Vote Solar has an issue brief with more information.

The deadline to stop this attack is in just a few weeks. Will you take action to protect solar rights?

According to the Energy Information Administration, Kansas has 1,278 residential net metering households and 211 commercial net metering customers. All of these customers and anyone considering adding solar to their rooftop are at risk of increased electric bills with the loss of net metering.

Thank you for lending your voice to this important issue during this challenging time!

TAKE ACTION! SAY NO TO EVERGY’S DIRTY RATE HIKES

Kansas’ largest utility monopoly, Evergy, is proposing a rate increase for nearly 1 million Kansas customers. The proposed rate increase would be one of the largest in the company’s history, hiking Kansas Central customers’ bills by more than $170 per year. Kansas City area Metro customers will see an additional $42 per year.
