WEALTH Day Climate Hearing – Making History at the Capitol
February 19, 2020

The Comprehensive Climate Hearing at this year’s WEALTH Day, February 10, 2020, was made possible by elected officials, climate activists, experts, and by all of you, tireless champions for a healthy and resilient future!

You can now view the full recording of the Climate Hearing online! A big shout out to Loud Light for recording it and making it available to all of us. You can also find all of the climate hearing testimonies and supporting documents archived here.

Climate change is a public health concern for our state and those least responsible will be the most impacted and least able to adapt to the climate crisis. Yet solutions exist to build resilience, economic opportunities, and healthy communities. We need the political will and power to implement them.

We call on policy makers to take bold, comprehensive action to reduce emissions and build resilience through a state climate and energy plan. We call on our utilities to help us reduce the risks of climate disruption to help safeguard the future of our state. Perhaps most importantly, we call on YOU to continue calling for climate action in Kansas.

Stay tuned for updates on Governor Kelly’s Executive Reorganization Order 46 that establishes an independent state energy office!

Kansas’ largest utility monopoly, Evergy, is proposing a rate increase for nearly 1 million Kansas customers. The proposed rate increase would be one of the largest in the company’s history, hiking Kansas Central customers’ bills by more than $170 per year. Kansas City area Metro customers will see an additional $42 per year.
