2017 has been an amazing year full of growth, new opportunities, and celebration at the Climate + Energy Project. As we marked our 10th anniversary, we reflected on our past successes and set our sights on a bright future for clean energy in Kansas. We’re on a solid path to a clean energy economy, we have a fantastic network of advocates and supporters, and hearts full of hope for the future. With all of these good things in mind, we’d like to share with you...

THE CLIMATE + ENERGY PROJECT’S TOP TEN REASONS FOR HOPE

Kansas has the second-best wind resource in the nation.

For ten years, CEP has emphasized the economic benefits of wind for our state. Our efforts helped propel the wind industry to be one of the top growth industries in our state.

…and we’re in the top 5 for solar potential.

We are turning our attention to the benefits of solar power in Kansas through distributed generation (DG) outreach and policy engagement. Watch for a DG workshop near you!

Kansas utilities increased renewables from 2.5% to 29% in ten years.

CEP is leading the way to a clean energy future through public outreach, education, and effective policy engagement. Our consistent, bipartisan approach maintained the Renewable Portfolio Standard for several years, allowing the utilities to significantly diversify energy generation.

Kansas has enormous potential for energy efficiency.

Kansas ranks 48th in the nation for energy efficiency. The sky is the limit for implementing policies that support the lowest cost resource: energy efficiency. CEP’s Clean Energy Business Council is leading the charge toward effective energy efficiency policies.

Our neighbors value energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Our campaign to support the Kansas Energy Efficiency Investment Act (KEEIA) docket at the KCC resulted in thousands of public comments supporting sound energy efficiency policies. Homeowners and business leaders want to choose their energy sources, and they are working for policies that will make it happen.

Clean energy means business in Kansas.

The Clean Energy Business Council's 25 members are advancingthe clean energy economy in Kansas by increasing access to clean energy through education, networking, and policy strategies.

Kansas organizations are convening around climate resilience & public health.

CEP is expanding the WEALTH (Water, Energy, Air, Land, Transportation, and Health) partnership with the goal of developing a climate and health declaration focusing on practical solutions that work in Kansas.

Kansas voters care about clean energy and climate resilience.

Our annual WEALTH Day of Education and Advocacy at the Capital empowers voters to engage in the political process. Join us on March 15!CEP is committed to improving public participation through CEP LIVE on Facebook: Civic Engagement and Kansas WEALTH on Tuesdays at 2:00. CEP's new Integrated Voter Engagement initiative will build a solid bloc of climate and energy voters ready to take action for Kansas!

Kansans are innovating to build community resilience and manage for the extremes.

Inspired by the homegrown leadership we saw in our Water + Energy Progress initiative, we continue to identify and develop leaders on environmental issues. Through a partnership with the Kansas Leadership Center we will host an environmental leadership summit in the summer of 2018!
