Amp (Ampere)

Measures how fast electric current can travel through a certain substance or conductor, such as a wire. Wires are rated to handle different levels of amps. High levels of amps create high levels of heat, which means that wires that are overloaded will overheat and possibly cause fires.

Amps are different than volts. Volts measure the force of a current, while amps measure the speed at which the current travels through a conductor.
